The prep work that makes exterior paint last
- Wash. We clean the surfaces with power washing so new paint sticks to the house, not to dirt and mildew.
- Scrape and sand. Loose and peeling paint comes off, and rough edges are sanded down.
- Repair. Soft or rotted trim boards are repaired or replaced as part of our light carpentry and exterior trim repair work.
- Caulk and prime. Open joints are sealed and bare wood is primed.
- Paint. We apply premium exterior paint, and the estimate spells out the number of coats.
Timing and weather
Exterior paint needs dry surfaces and suitable temperatures to cure properly. In Massachusetts that usually means late spring through fall. We schedule around the forecast and will not rush a coat onto a wet or cold surface just to stay on schedule.

Usually late spring through early fall, on dry days with mild temperatures. We plan the schedule around the weather.
Do you repair rotted wood before painting?
Yes. Minor rot in trim, sills and boards is repaired or replaced before painting, and we tell you what we find before doing extra work.
Do I need to be home while you paint the outside?
Not usually. We need access to outdoor water and electricity, and we will check in with you at the start and end of the job.
When do I pay?
There is no payment until the job is done and you are happy with the walkthrough.
